Seismic monitoring of engineering structures e.g. Dam walls
Operation
A network of independent GS
data acquisition units independently records the response of
the dam wall to natural and induced seismicity for later analysis
on the seismic controller. The seismic
controller is also used for the occasional field-configuration
of the GS units.
Communications
Use of common cellular telephone modems here minimises
infrastructural set-up costs. At midnight every day all seismic
stations are contacted and seismic information downloaded. Seismograms
of common events are post-associated for off-line processing and
interpretation.
Seismic Sensors
Each GS data acquisition unit can monitor and
pre-process up to six seismic signals, in any combination of uni-,
bi- or tri-axial seismic sensors.
For each seismic channel up to 3 logical
channels may be extracted with GS technology. Both geophones
and accelerometers (piezoelectric and Force-Balance) are currently
supported.
Seismic Data Processing & Interpretation
The seismograms of every seismic event that triggers
multiple stations are post-associated on the seismic
controller. Seismograms are then exported to ASCII format for
processing with an engineering structural response package.
