Routine Seismological Processing and Interpretation Services
To assist mine rock engineering and geotechnical
engineers in managing the large amounts of seismic data recorded
by the seismic system, ISS International offers routine virtual
seismic services. Using our custom-made data transfer technology,
seismic data recorded at a mine anywhere in the world can be transferred
to ISSI, processed and be back on the mine database within a few
minutes.
Processing is carried out according to ISO 9001
procedures and quality controlled by expert mine seismologists.
The extensive use of in-house custom software for data manipulation
has allowed cost-effective analysis and reporting. Reporting can
be as often as several times per day to once per month.
The services team at ISSI has over 60 man-years
of experience, and currently analyses and reports on over a hundred
working areas for mines in Australasia, Europe, South America and
Southern Africa.

Specialised Seismological Services
ISS International offers special seismological
analyses for large and/or unusual seismic events, using a multi-disciplinary
team of professional engineers and scientists. Analysis specialities
include seismic dynamic modelling, statistics, forensic seismology,
anatomy of waveforms, numerical stress modelling and quantification
of seismic hazard. Such occasional projects are undertaken jointly
with the mine geotechnical engineers and focus on the answers to
specific questions raised by mine management.

Engineering Seismology
The following services pertaining to measurement
and characterisation of ground motion and structure vibration are
performed for Engineering Seismology:
- Measurement of ambient noise levels
- Measurement of strong ground motions
- Estimation of site effects associated with
surface openings
- Estimation of strong ground motion (e.g. peak
ground velocity and acceleration) and the associated frequency
of a given site, on the basis of weak excitation.
- Response spectra from the linear and non-linear
behaviour of engineering structures
- Modal identification for engineering structures
- Seismic hazard estimation
